The Competition

$5,000* in cash prizes for top six winners that perform at Carnegie Hall!

The ultimate goal of this competition is to put together a talented group of gifted amateur musicians to debut the orchestral work "Voices, A Call For Peace Around the World " learn more. The final presentation of "Voices" will be at Carnegie Hall in New York city in 2009. (Winners of the competition will need to provide their own transportation and lodging for at least 2 days while in New York).

The competition is broken into two groups: a local competition and an international competition. The local winners will provide substantial support for the orchestra that plays "Voices" at Carnegie Hall. The international winners will provide additional musical support for the "Voices" orchestra and/or choir.

Positions To Be Filled

For this competition, we are building a top-notch orchestra and choir. To that end, each applicant is competing against other applicants in their musical instrument of choice. In the case of choral competitors, applicants will compete with other choral applicants. Click here to see all the positions that need to be filled.

There are three stages to the competition:

Stage I: Deadline Extended Until All Positions are Filled!
Ages 5 years to 21 years as of May 30, 2008 (exceptions)
$5,000 in cash prizes will be awarded upon completion of Stage III.

Musicianship

Perform and record, onto CD or DVD, two pieces of contrasting style from standard literature and then submit your application. Entries will be numbered as we receive them.

Results

In case of a tie the earlier entry will win. Deadline for applications is extended until all positions are filled . Winners of stage I will be posted on the web no later than June 30, 2008.

Age Exceptions

Due to the nature of the conductor's position, applications of over 21 years of age will be accepted.

Stage II: Deadline - (Date of receipt) September 1, 2008


Each winner from Stage I will be assigned a part in "Voices" with instructions on where to obtain the part. The contestant must send in CD or DVD performing their part no later than September 1, 2008. In addition to the music, contestants must also submit an essay (see following section) along with the DVD. The essay must be typed and not handwritten.

All winners will be posted on the web by September 10, 2008.

Essay (Optional)

Because "Voices" is about engendering hope of peace and understanding through the power of music, we are looking for like-minded individuals who value music as an expression of spirituality and devotion to one's faith or beliefs. We believe musicians that have this kind of devotion in their lives will ultimately help "Voices" to yield deeply meaningful and powerful performance to all those who hear it.

Applicants have the option to submit an essay of how their music and spirituality are related or involved in their everyday lives. Click here for more essay guidelines. To compete for the Essay's cash prize, you must pay the application fee of $50.00.

Stage III: Deadline - To be announced.

Rehearsals for Voices are required (place and time to be announced).

Awards

Cash prizes are awarded to only those contestants who paid the $50 application fee.

For children five years old to seven years can draw a picture in lieu of essay. Please include descriptive caption for picture. Special monetary prizes will be awarded for this category.

Music

1st place prize - $2,500 2nd place prize - $300 3rd place prize - $200

Eligibility

Contestants who paid the $8 contest application fee are not eligible for cash prizes. Contestants who paid the $50 contest application fee are eligible for cash prizes. Contestants will be awarded after their performance in "Voices" at Carnegie Hall. Winners who do not go to perform at Carnegie Hall will forfeit their winnings and the next runner up that performs at Carnegie Hall receives the award.
